COLUMBUS, Ind. – Three suspects are in custody on a variety of charges following an investigation involving prostitution by the Joint Narcotics Enforcement Team (JNET) and Intelligence Led Policing Unit (ILP). During the execution of a search warrant, law enforcement also allegedly uncovered nearly 50 grams of methamphetamine.
The investigation into Mariel V. Hautman, 32, and Corey S. Singer, 48, both of Columbus, started after the Columbus Police Department (CPD) was made aware of an advertisement posted on an escort website.
Additionally, Singer was found to be a sex offender who was not in compliance with the sex offender registry, according to CPD.
JNET obtained a search warrant to search Hautman and Singer’s residence in the 3000 block of Streamside Drive. Upon execution of the warrant, probable cause was established to place Chad Singer, 55, of Davenport, Iowa, under arrest as well. During the search of the home, JNET supposedly located several bags of meth (totaling approximately 45 grams), packaging material, a digital scale, and drug paraphernalia. The officers also found a four-year-old child inside a bedroom that was locked from the outside.
All three suspects were taken to the Bartholomew County Jail and remanded with a 48-hour hold.
Mariel Hautman was charged with Dealing in Meth (Level 2 felony), Neglect of a Dependent (Level 5 Felony), Maintaining a Common Nuisance (Level 6 Felony), and Prostitution (Class A misdemeanor).
Corey Singer was booked for Dealing in Meth (Level 2 Felony), Maintaining a Common Nuisance, (Level 6 Felony) Failure to Register as a Sex Offender (Level 6 Felony), and Prostitution (Class A misdemeanor).
Chad Singer was arrested for Visiting a Common Nuisance, as a Class B misdemeanor.
Other charges are possible in this ongoing investigation.
