EDINBURGH, Ind. — Officers with the Edinburgh Police Department were awarded life-saving awards after they rescued a man and his dogs from a fire earlier this month.
On September 2, Officers Clayton Embry and Sean Pendleton, along with the Edinburgh Fire Department (EFD), were dispatched to 407 N. Kyle St. The 911 caller, a 62-year-old man, was sitting on the couch during the fire and was unable to get to his wheelchair. The house was full of smoke and the man was having difficulty breathing. The officers found the man and helped him get to his wheelchair along with his lifesaving medical supplies.
Law Enforcement was also able to get the man’s six dogs out where they were placed in a vehicle by a firefighter while EFD battled the flames.
EPD Chief Doyne Little Jr. credited the officers for getting to the scene and venturing into the fire without hesitation and saving the man’s life. He also credited 911 dispatched Jerrica Barnaby who got the correct address and kept the man calm.
Chief Little and Sgt. Roy Sturgeon presented each officer with a life-saving award on September 13. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
