SOUTH-CENTRAL, Ind. – The National Weather Service and Bartholomew County Emergency Management are alerting residents that the second weather system this week is now moving into south-central Indiana and will continue until Sunday.
Affected are Columbus, Franklin, Seymour, North Vernon, and all cities and towns in Bartholomew, Jackson, Johnson, Jennings, Decatur, Shelby, and Brown Counties.
Rain and gusty winds will move in from the west late Thursday and early Friday. By Friday afternoon, 30-50 mph winds are expected, with gusts over 50 mph, late Friday and early Saturday. Winds will begin calming on Saturday afternoon and Sunday, but it will still be breezy.
Total liquid precipitation anticipated is 1-2 inches of rain late Thursday through Saturday. One inch or less of snow is possible for the area. Snow prediction numbers could change if the snow transitions faster or slower than currently forecasted.
Highs for Friday are in the 40s with colder air for the weekend and beyond, with highs in the teens. Lows Sunday and Monday nights could be below zero with wind chills of -25 degrees possible.

- Roadways may become slick as temperatures drop and surfaces freeze
- Allow extra distance between you and the vehicle in front of you
- Clear ice and/or snow from all windows of your vehicle for better visibility

Protect Yourself:
- Limit your time outside
- Wear layers of loose-fitting, lightweight, warm clothing
- Wear a hat. Stay dry and out of the wind
- Cover your mouth to protect your lungs from extreme cold
- Watch for frostbite and know the signs of hypothermia

- Limit their time outside
- Provide shelter and fresh water
