NORTH VERNON, Ind. – The North Vernon Police Department (NVPD), North Vernon Fire Department, and Rescue 20 were dispatched last Thursday, at around 9:20 a.m., to the area of North State Road 3 and US 50, to check on a male who was reported to be passed out behind the wheel.
Officers say that they found a man leaning over in the driver’s seat of a small passenger car.
Firefighters and paramedics were attempting to wake the driver, later identified as Jarvie Trey Williams III, 30, of North Vernon, when he suddenly became conscious. He then allegedly started refusing instructions from NVPD and drove away at a high rate of speed.
Police tried to follow Williams, but lost sight of the vehicle on US 50, west of North S.R. 3. A short time later the suspect crashed into a stationary Freightliner bucket truck that was facing south on N. State Road 7. None of the occupants of the bucket truck was injured.
Williams refused medical treatment. He was arrested on the preliminary charges of Reckless Driving and Criminal Recklessness.
