SEYMOUR, Ind. — On March 11, at approximately 11:40 p.m., Seymour Police Communications received a call that an ex-boyfriend had broken into an apartment on Miller Lane and discharged a firearm. Patrol officers responded to the location and had contact with one of the victims, who told them that the ex-boyfriend of his girlfriend had come into the apartment and started a verbal confrontation that resulted in the ex-boyfriend pointing a firearm at them and discharging it. The suspect then left the area.
The suspect, Jordan S. Riley age 24 of Austin, IN, was later located by the Austin Police Department. He was interviewed and told investigators he was angry because of alleged drug use in the home while his son was sometimes present. Also, during the interview, the suspect told investigators that when the gun went off in the apartment, he was shot in the leg. The suspect showed investigators the gunshot wound and was taken to the emergency room for treatment.
On March 12, investigators met with Riley who led them to a pond in Washington County where the firearm supposedly was. At that point, Riley was arrested for Burglary a level 2 felony, and intimidation (deadly weapon) a level 5 felony. Riley was taken to the Jackson County Jail and turned over to the jail division for processing.
On March 13, the pond in Washington County was searched again. Divers with the Indiana DNR Division of Law Enforcement searched the pond for several hours without locating the firearm. The truthfulness of all parties involved regarding the location of the firearm is questionable. The investigation is ongoing.
