COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Fire Department (CFD) was called to 3344 Spring Valley Dr. for a residential fire on Monday afternoon.
Columbus Police officers were first to arrive at around 4:15 p.m. and reported seeing smoke within a two-story Northbrook addition home. They told CFD that the home’s occupants had escaped with several pets.
Firefighters found light smoke on the ground floor. They experienced high heat and very smoky conditions on the second floor as they discovered a small fire in a second-floor bedroom. The fire was under control within minutes.
Crews removed a smoldering mattress and a bedside nightstand from the home to ensure the fire had been completely extinguished. The small blaze was contained to the bedroom area.
Investigators said electrical components, including charging devices, were found near the fire’s suspected origin.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Smoke damage was visible throughout the home. Damage is estimated at $45,000. No injuries were reported at the scene.
