INDIANAPOLIS – To state politicians in the General Assembly, Republican gubernatorial candidate Jamie Reitenour has one piece of advice: get out of the office.
“We need to change the way that we do government … We need to get on the ground. We need to talk to our constituents,” Reitenour told the Indiana Capital Chronicle.
In those small conversations, Reitenour, running for her first political office, appears to excel in spreading her “Indiana Goodness” message – not in advertisements or massive rallies but one-on-one.
“I have spent thousands of hours in the past three years, listening to the Hoosier people. That’s why I can say confidently that, “Indiana is a beautiful state — because I’ve seen her people,” Reitenour said.
This is where Reitenour says she’s found the inspiration for some of her most unconventional proposals, including the elimination of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation and striking the state’s property tax.
