SHELBYVILLE, Ind. – Indiana State Police (ISP) troopers were requested to assist the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office with a serious crash on I-74, at the 112-mile marker near Shelbyville, on Monday at around 2 p.m.
Reports indicated a charter bus with several passengers was involved. First responders found an unconscious adult male unresponsive inside a van that had struck the back of the bus. The man driving was pronounced deceased on the scene.
Nobody on the bus was seriously injured but nine of the passengers chose to go to the hospital for treatment. None of those injuries were serious.
A preliminary investigation by ISP crash reconstructionists determined that Jason Huber, 52, of Boggstown, was driving east on I-74. Traffic had stopped for unknown reasons and Huber crashed into the back of the stopped bus.
The eastbound lanes of I-74 were closed for approximately two hours while the crash was investigated and the wrecked vehicles removed. The accident investigation is ongoing.
