COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) pulled over a vehicle on Tuesday after it was observed speeding north on US 31 near the intersection with N. County Road 550W. During the traffic stop, law enforcement says that passenger John William Hayes displayed noticeably nervous behavior.
A deputy and his K9 partner Jari conducted a free air sniff around the vehicle. Jari indicated the presence of narcotics inside. During a search, BCSO found a backpack that allegedly contained methamphetamine, packaging materials, scales, smoking devices, marijuana, oxycodone pills, and other evidence including nearly $3,000.
Hayes was arrested and remains in custody on a 48-hour hold on the following charges:
- Dealing in Meth
- Possession of Meth
- Dealing in a Controlled Substance
- Possession of a Controlled Substance
- Possession of Marijuana
- Possession of Paraphernalia
- Possession of Paraphernalia
