BARGERSVILLE, Ind. – The Bargersville Police Department apprehended a man for stealing a pickup truck from a residence in southern Johnson County on Wednesday afternoon. A swift response by Sgt. Moore led to the recovery of the stolen vehicle and the suspect’s arrest.
Moore located the stolen vehicle heading north on I-69 near Southport Road, at around 12:45 p.m. Upon initiating a traffic stop, the driver pulled over at first but soon took off, continuing north on the interstate.
The Bargersville Police officer pursued the vehicle until it experienced a major mechanical failure near I-69 and Epler Avenue. The stolen pickup coasted into a nearby business, where the driver abandoned it and fled on foot.
A brief foot chase began but Sgt. Moore soon caught the suspect and took him into custody. He was identified as Jimmy Rodger Smith, of Franklin.
Smith was arrested and charged with vehicle theft.
