COLUMBUS, Ind. – One man is in custody for drug dealing and resisting law enforcement after he was stopped on his bicycle for traffic infractions early Thursday.
The Columbus Police Department (CPD) stopped a bicyclist at around 3:10 a.m., near Indiana Avenue and N. Ross Street because the bicycle did not have a front light or rear reflector. The man was identified as Christopher Keller, 34, of Columbus.
While the suspect spoke to law enforcement, he continued to reach into his pocket after being asked to stop several times. Police began a pat down for weapons and allegedly located a pocket knife in his waistband. Before CPD could complete the search, Keller began to pull away and resist the officer. The struggle continued onto the ground.
More officers arrived and the man was taken into custody. While searching the suspect, police supposedly found drugs, scales, syringes, and other drug-related items. One of the bags of drugs found tested positive for fentanyl. The other tested positive for both methamphetamine and fentanyl.
Keller was arrested on the preliminary charges of dealing a narcotic drug (level 4 felony), dealing meth (level 4 felony), possession of meth (level 6 felony), possession of a narcotic drug (level 6 felony), possession of a syringe (level 6 felony), and resisting law enforcement (misdemeanor).
