FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) issued a statement this week warning citizens about a jury duty scam. Residents are receiving calls from people fraudulently using the names of Johnson County deputies.
Scammers place calls falsely claiming to the person called that they have missed jury duty and that there is now a warrant out for their arrest. The criminals are impersonating law enforcement officials, including using the names of actual Sheriff’s Deputies, to scare individuals into paying fines or providing personal information.
JCSO will never contact individuals by phone to demand payment or threaten arrest for failure to report to jury duty. Any legitimate communication regarding jury duty will come through official court channels.
Sheriff Duane Burgess said, “We take these scams very seriously and are actively working to protect the community. If you have any concerns or questions, call our office at 317-736-9155.”
