NORTH VERNON, Ind. – The North Vernon City Council convened on Monday.
At the meeting, the North Vernon Police Department swore in Connor Emily as a new police officer.
Local community members were also recognized for their lifesaving efforts during an incident with an unconscious man that occurred in August. Four Sand Creek elementary coaches and five firefighters were honored by the North Vernon Fire Department and EMS.
Clerk-Treasurer Charlie Weber asked the board to consider adding a benefit for city employees that helps them deal with mental stress. It is essentially an online program to connect with people going through similar experiences. The board unanimously approved the additional benefit that will cost $1800 a year. Weber also requested to consider incentivizing city employees to get annual physicals by reducing employees’ 90% health coverage to 85% unless they produce proof of yearly checkups.
Finally, street closures were approved. On December 7, there will be a food handout drive-thru in the St. Mary’s parking lot so Scott Street and a portion of Washington Street will be closed.
