SHELBY COUNTY, Ind. – The Shelby County Sheriff’s Department (SCSD) was dispatched to State Road 44 and Country Road 600E for a reported multi-vehicle crash last Saturday evening. Deputies arrived at the fatal crash involving three vehicles just after 6 p.m.
The initial investigation showed that an SUV driven by Robert Malone, 59, of Shelbyville, was traveling east on State Road 44 and had stopped to turn north onto C.R. 600E when a second vehicle driven by Khristal Grant, 43, of Indianapolis, failed to slow and struck the SUV from behind. Malone’s vehicle spun into the westbound lane where it was hit again by a car driven by Joshua Wainscott, 27, of Arlington.
A six-year-old passenger in Malone’s vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene. Several injuries were reported, and victims were taken to local hospitals.
