COLUMBUS, Ind. — Community members who need their taxes done can sign up for free tax filing through United Way of Bartholomew County’s My Free Taxes program.
The program offers free tax filings to Bartholomew County residents who make $70,000 or less. IRS-certified volunteers provide confidential and secure basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals.
Income tax assistance appointments are conducted through mid-April at the Doug Otto United Way Center. Reservations for a tax appointment will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservations can be made starting Monday, January 27.
Call the United We Help Line at 812-375-2216 anytime between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, to make an appointment for My Free Taxes. Assistance is available by appointment only.
In 2024, The VITA Volunteer Tax Assistance program put more than a million dollars back into the local economy by securing tax refunds and saving filing fees for residents. Individuals who want to file for free online can go to www.myfreetaxes.org.
