COLUMBUS, Ind. – Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation’s (BCSC) second annual Educator Signing Day was Tuesday morning in the Judson Erne Auditorium at Columbus North High School. The event recognized 31 high school seniors from Columbus East, Columbus North, and CSA New Tech who plan to pursue a degree in education and dedicate their careers to teaching.
The ceremony, inspired by athletic signing days, honored students who are committing to the teaching profession.
Dr. Katie Jenner, Indiana Secretary of Education, and Columbus Mayor Mary Ferdon shared remarks and congratulated the students on this milestone.
“You are joining 65,000 Hoosier teachers in being part of the most important profession: education, “Dr. Jenner stated. “Thank you for choosing public service and choosing to make a difference,” Mayor Ferdon added.
BCSC Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources Dr. Erin Stalbaum said, “We believe in honoring the value of education and are fortunate to have so many champions behind our students, such as the Indiana Department of Education, the Bartholomew County Retired Teachers Association, and the Columbus Educators Association, as they lead the next generation.”
During Educator Signing Day, each participating senior was recognized individually, with highlights of their educational journey, college plans, and a personal testimonial from a BCSC teacher who has influenced their path. Students formally signed letters of intent and received a special “Future Educator” yard sign to display proudly at home.
This event builds a pipeline of future educators from within the community and focuses on the BCSC goal to attract and retain a diverse, high-quality staff. It is paramount that students and community members view a career at BCSC as attainable and fulfilling. BCSC looks forward to welcoming them and supporting their growth through field experiences and student teaching.
