COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Police Department (CPD) took a local man into custody on multiple felony charges after leading officers on a vehicle pursuit through downtown Columbus.
CPD attempted to stop a car for a violation near North National Road on Washington Street on Tuesday at around 8:10 p.m. The male driver did not stop and continued south on Washington Street, at 50 to 50 mph, and ran a red light at 25th Street.
Police said they saw the man throwing possible drugs out of the window. Eventually, he stopped near 11th and Washington Streets and was arrested. He was identified as Jeremy Vanantwerp, 43, of Columbus.
After a K9 unit sniffed the vehicle, officers allegedly located methamphetamine and drug-related items. They also supposedly found a torn open bag along the roadway that contained residue of fentanyl.
Vanantwerp was arrested for the preliminary charges of:
- Resisting law enforcement (level 6 felony)
- Obstruction of justice (level 6 felony)
- Possession of a narcotic drug (level 6 felony)
- Possession of meth (level 6 felony)
- Possession of drug paraphernalia (class C misdemeanor)
