NORTH VERNON, Ind. – The new North Vernon Police Station groundbreaking ceremony was held on Wednesday, May 21. It will be constructed where the parking lot is for the current building.
Officials at the North Vernon Police Department (NVPD) stated that the facility they are now in was not originally constructed as a police station and is extremely outdated. As the police department develops laws regulating evidence storage changes, there is a need for a larger, more advanced building.
Mayor Shawn Gerkin said, “This police station will be a source of pride for both our officers and the community, designed with a forward-thinking approach to serve the department’s needs for the next 50 years.”
According to Mayor Gerkin, the construction of the new police station will not result in a tax increase for residents.
