NORTH VERNON, Ind – The Jennings County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) announced the passing of former Sheriff Earl Taggart over the weekend. He was 78 years old.
Taggart served as Jennings County Sheriff from 1999 to 2007. Before that, “Tag” spent 20 years with the Indiana State Police at the Seymour post.
The JCSO announcement stated, “Earl Taggart was a visionary leader, a loyal friend, and a masterful storyteller who inspired all who knew him. We are grateful for the countless lives he touched and are thankful for his remarkable service.”
He was serving as an elected member of the Jennings County School Corporation Board of Trustees at the time of his passing.
Sheriff Taggart’s visitation and funeral will be held on Thursday, May 29, in the Jennings County High School auxiliary gym. Visitation begins at noon, and will run until the time of the service at 6 p.m. The full obituary can be found here.
