COLUMBUS, Ind. – Bartholomew County Prosecutor Lindsey Holden-Kay has announced that she will seek reelection for a second term. Having previously served as a Deputy Prosecutor and Juvenile Magistrate under Circuit Court Judge Kelly Benjamin, Holden-Kay was first elected to serve as Bartholomew County Prosecutor in 2022.
She was initially motivated to seek the office due to her concern over rising local crime rates and committed to establishing a procedure to expedite the filing of charges and to renew the office’s focus on the successful prosecution of repeat offenders.
In her first term, Holden-Kay made immediate changes to ensure criminal charges were filed promptly, a problem that had plagued the office for years. This involved streamlining the office processes, including implementing a system in which law enforcement electronically submits probable cause and search warrant affidavits, making the process more efficient and secure.
She also added two new full-time positions, the first additions to the office since 2008. These positions included one Deputy Prosecutor and a Criminal Investigator.
In her media release announcing her intention to run again, Prosecutor Holden-Kay said, “The role of a county prosecutor is about public safety and seeking justice for those harmed by crime. I have been fortunate to build an amazing team that has made great strides in this first term. Over 90% of criminal cases are filed within 48-72 hours of arrest, ensuring that arrestees are not released without going before a judge. We successfully tried the first capital case in Bartholomew County since 2006, securing a conviction and ensuring that the murderer never sees the light of day. Finally, my team has tried numerous jury trials throughout this first term, and we have a 100% conviction rate. Despite these successes, there is still work to be done, and I look forward to continuing to serve my community.”
