COLUMBUS, Ind. -Duke Energy has estimated that it will take until 11:59 p.m. on June 20 to restore power to about 2800 Bartholomew County customers still affected by Wednesday evening’s severe weather.
Tens of thousands of utility customers initially lost power in south-central Indiana, and many trees and power lines were downed following severe thunderstorms that moved through the area.
The storm system produced 60+ mph winds and penny-sized hail. Trees were reported over roads near Columbus North High School, Columbus East High School, and Fifth Third Bank.
Bartholomew County REMC (BCREMC) and Duke Energy continue to work to restore power to homes and businesses affected by the storm.
According to the South Central REMC’s assessment, there is a lot of damage in Brown County and Prince’s Lakes. It is possible that those two affected areas may also not have power until Friday. Several power lines are down on Roszell Drive, Ayers Drive, and Hoover Drive, and through traffic is blocked. Power might be out for a while due to the entire county dealing with storm damage.
