FRANKLIN, Ind. – Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) contractor Milestone Contractors, L.P., is continuing work on Phases 1 and 2 of a six-phase intersection improvement project on U.S. 31 in Franklin.
Below is the INDOT update.
Phase 1: Beginning on or after Monday, August 4, Phase 1 box culvert replacement work will resume between Acorn Drive and Schoolhouse Road. Drivers can expect the following traffic restrictions during Phase 1 box culvert replacement work through early October, weather permitting:
- Northbound U.S. 31 will be reduced to one lane from Lemley Street to just north of Acorn Drive; the right lane remains open
- Traffic will be unable to turn left from northbound U.S. 31 onto Cedar Lane, Acorn Drive, and Ransdell Drive
- Southbound U.S. 31 will be reduced to one lane from just north of Ransdell Drive to Schoolhouse Road
- The open lane of southbound U.S. 31 will be crossed over at Acorn Drive and will use the left lane of northbound U.S. 31
- Local access will be maintained to and from southbound U.S. 31 and Ransdell Drive, Acorn Drive, and Cedar Lane
Phase 1 work is expected to be complete by late November, weather permitting. The previous update on Phase 1 work can be found here.
Phase 2: Intersection improvement work continues on U.S. 31 between South Main Street and West Jefferson Street in Franklin. Get more information on Phase 2 here.
Overall work on Phases 1 and 2 of the project is expected to be complete in late November, weather permitting. INDOT will provide additional updates as work progresses. Motorists can receive updates and additional information from INDOT Southeast via Facebook and X.
This project is part of a $66.2 million intersection improvement contract awarded to Milestone in February 2025. Contract work is anticipated to be complete in 2028. Find more details here.
