NORTH VERNON, Ind. – The Jennings County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) is searching for the owners of $125,000 worth of alleged stolen property in connection with the arrests of four North Vernon men for burglary on August 8.
The Jennings County Circuit Court Probation Department requested JCSO’s assistance during a home check of a probationer. While inside the residence, deputies observed several items that appeared to be stolen in plain view.
Approximately $125,000 worth of stolen property was recovered, including power tools, generators, welders, toolboxes, and other equipment.
As a result, Rodney Mead, 57, and Jeremy Long, 30, both of North Vernon, were arrested and transported to the Jennings County Jail. They are being held on a $100,000 full cash bond for:
• Burglary (Level 4 Felony)
• Burglary (Level 5 Felony)
• Theft (Level 6 Felony)
Further investigation led authorities to apply for an additional search warrant for a residence in Campbell Township, which was granted and executed on August 14. JCSO recovered more stolen property, including power tools, welders, and a motorcycle stolen from Jefferson County.
Two more individuals were apprehended in connection with the case. Michael Murphy, 35, and Mackenzie Jenkins, 36, both of North Vernon, were charged with Theft (Level 6 Felony) and are being held in the Jennings County Jail on a $50,000 full cash bond.
JCSO is working to identify the owners of the stolen property. Investigators believe the items found are linked to nearly 20 burglaries and thefts spanning four counties, with many occurring recently in Jennings County.
