EDINBURGH, Ind. – The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) has taken a local man into custody after he allegedly raped a woman at a gas station on Sunday morning, August 17.
Deputies responded to the alleged crime that occurred at a gas station in the 13000 block of North US 31, just north of Indiana Premium Outlets, at around 3:20 a.m. Personnel at Johnson Memorial Health in Franklin had notified dispatch that the supposed victim, a female from Edinburgh, had come to the hospital for treatment.
Law enforcement identified the suspect as Varinderpal Singh, 24, of Edinburgh. He was working as the attendant at the gas station.
A BCSO detective traveled to the hospital to meet with the victim. She advised that the alleged sexual assault, which resulted in injuries, occurred inside the station.
Singh was incarcerated, charged with Rape, and remains in custody on a 72-hour hold.
This is a preliminary investigation. All persons are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
