COLUMBUS, Ind. – The City of Columbus invites the community downtown to commemorate the 24th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. A remembrance ceremony will be held next Thursday, September 11, on the Columbus City Hall Plaza, 123 Washington Street, beginning at approximately 8:30 a.m. It is open to the public, and all are encouraged to attend.
The event includes a moment of silence to reflect and honor the memory of those who perished that tragic day. A special dispatch broadcast will pay tribute to first responders and citizens who lost their lives at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and aboard United Airlines Flight 93, which crashed in Pennsylvania. Nearly 3,000 individuals lost their lives in the attacks.
The Columbus Police and Fire Color Guard will participate in the ceremony. Additionally, officials from the Columbus Fire Department will deliver remarks.
A Fire Service bell ceremony is also planned, a time-honored tradition that will further honor the memory of those who have given their lives in the line of duty. The ceremony is expected to last about 30 minutes.
