COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Fire Department (CFD) welcomed a new member this week, bringing the department to full staff. Logan Duke, 28, was sworn in by Columbus Mayor Mary Ferdon at the Tuesday, September 23, Board of Public Works and Safety meeting at Columbus City Hall.
Duke, from San Marcos, Calif., joined the U.S. Navy in 2016 as a Damage Control Officer, where his responsibilities were firefighting and flood control. The new CFD firefighter received a Certificate in Public Safety from Ivy Tech Bloomington in 2023. He served as a volunteer firefighter with Columbus Township Fire Rescue in 2023-2024 and began a career position with that agency last year.
He is a nationally registered Basic Emergency Medical Technician and holds Indiana Firefighter I and II certifications. Duke also has National Incident Management Systems Certifications and is a Swift Water Rescue Technician.
Duke, who resides in Columbus with his family, will undergo a Columbus Fire Department orientation and training program, which will conclude with a station and shift assignment.
