ORANGE COUNTY, Ind. – The Louisville Airport and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) notified the Indiana State Police (ISP) about a possible downed aircraft near the Orange County/Lawrence County line on Saturday at around 10 p.m. According to ISP, the crash involved a Lancair fixed-wing, single-engine aircraft.
Troopers from the Jasper District, Bloomington District, and multiple local first responders searched throughout the night. At approximately 4 a.m. on Sunday, the aircraft was located in a heavily wooded area in Orange County near Old Vincennes Road. The pilot was located inside the plane with non-life-threatening injuries.
Due to the dense woods and hills, the pilot had to be carried out by stretcher. This rescue was only possible due to the coordinated effort by all state and county agencies involved.
The FAA will be taking over the investigation moving forward.
