NORTH VERNON, Ind. -The Jennings County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) de-escalated a hostage situation where a man allegedly held a female victim at gunpoint on Monday afternoon, October 6.
JCSO Deputies were dispatched to the 1300 block of North Huckleberry Drive to a domestic violence situation at around 12:30 p.m. The female victim was advised to leave the residence, but the male suspect, 21-year-old Kean Weston of Indianapolis, allegedly held a firearm to the female victim’s head as she tried to exit.
During a nearly hour-and-a-half standoff, Sgt. Thomas Mellencamp and Chief Deputy Cody Low negotiated with the suspect, who was sitting in a vehicle in front of the house with a firearm. Eventually, the man complied, was taken into custody, and then transported to the Jennings County Jail.
Weston is facing the following preliminary charges:
- Intimidation with a Deadly Weapon (Level 5 Felony)
- Pointing a Firearm (Level 6 Felony)
The Jennings County Sheriff’s Office thanked Jennings County Central Dispatchers Julie Miller and Amie Smith, who they say were crucial in passing information back and forth between deputies and the victim.
