SEYMOUR, Ind. – The Seymour Police Department (SPD) was conducting a traffic and crime suppression-related enforcement last Wednesday, October 1, when an officer developed probable cause to initiate a traffic stop on a car. The vehicle failed to yield, and a brief pursuit ensued.
The chase ended in the 500 block of South Vine Street. The driver, Xavier Garlinghouse, 25, of Seymour, was taken into custody. Police soon developed reason to believe that Garlinghouse was also a suspect in multiple non-related cases involving vehicle break-ins, specifically in the area of the Boulevards.
SPD K9 Officer Justin Hammond and his K9 partner, Lewa, were deployed to the pursuit area with consideration of the possibility that the suspect may have discarded objects during the course of the incident.
K9 Lewa alerted to a bag located in the area of the chase. A handgun and drugs were allegedly found. Another firearm that had been reported stolen out of a vehicle in the Boulevards area was also supposedly located.
Garlinghouse was arrested for Resisting in a Motor Vehicle, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of a Handgun by a Felon, Unlawful Entry of a Vehicle (x3), and Possession of Marijuana.
All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
