COLUMBUS, Ind. – The State of Indiana sentenced a Bartholomew County man convicted of Armed Robbery to serve nine years at the Department of Corrections after he violated his probation on Thursday, October 23.
In September 2024, Marc Mathis of Columbus was arrested and subsequently charged with Armed Robbery (Level 3 Felony). The Columbus Police Department investigated after receiving a report that the Circle K on County Road 450S had been robbed by a white male, in a ski mask and gloves, who had displayed a handgun and demanded money from the register.
Earlier this year, Mathis was convicted and sentenced to a suspended nine-year sentence, with four years to be served on probation, beginning with a minimum of six months in the Bartholomew County Work Release Facility. The State of Indiana, by Prosecuting Attorney Lindsey Holden-Kay, filed a Petition to revoke his probation on the basis that he had used Fentanyl in the work release facility.
At a dispositional hearing on Thursday, the State requested that Mathis serve all nine years of his suspended sentence. Judge Kelly Benjamin granted that request and ordered him to serve nine years in the Department of Corrections for violating his probation.
