GREENWOOD, Ind. – The American Water Charitable Foundation, a philanthropic non-profit organization established by American Water, the largest regulated water and wastewater utility company in the U.S., and Indiana American Water announced Thursday that the Foundation has awarded $34,000 in State Strategic Impact grants to five Indiana-based community food distribution centers.
These organizations provide direct support for hunger relief efforts in their local communities. The new Whiteland/Greenwood Food Pantry was one of the Indiana organizations receiving funds and it collected $5000.
In today’s economic climate, food banks are experiencing heightened demand driven by inflation, delays in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, and the traditional surge during the holiday season. These challenges have left many families struggling to access basic necessities. Funding from organizations like the American Water Charitable Foundation helps bridge the gap, ensuring that food distribution centers can continue to serve vulnerable populations with dignity and consistency.
“Supporting food security is a critical part of building resilient communities. We’re proud to work alongside the American Water Charitable Foundation to help ensure that families across Indiana have access to the resources they need. These grants reflect our commitment to making a meaningful impact where our employees and customers live and work,” said Barry Suits, President, Indiana American Water.
