GREENWOOD, Ind. – The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) attempted to pull over a vehicle for speeding in the area of State Road 135 and County Line Road in Greenwood early Monday morning.
As deputies tried to initiate a traffic stop at around 2:40 a.m., the driver fled north into Marion County, accelerating well above the speed limit with the car’s headlights turned off. Officers tried to safely stop the vehicle several times but the car didn’t slow down and the pursuit continued.
The chase ended when the suspect vehicle crashed into a garage on South Meridian Street in Indianapolis. The driver was taken into custody without further incident.
The driver was identified as a 17-year-old male who had just obtained his driver’s license on November 20. During an inventory of the vehicle prior to towing, JCSO allegedly located a semi-automatic pistol with a loaded magazine.
The juvenile to a local hospital for medical evaluation. Law enforcement experienced difficulties in locating and speaking with the juvenile’s guardian following the arrest. After being medically cleared, he will be taken to the Johnson County Juvenile Detention Center.
The teenager has been arrested on the following charges:
- Resisting Law Enforcement with a Motor Vehicle
- Dangerous Possession of a Firearm
