FRANKLIN, Ind. –Indiana State Police Detectives are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Franklin on Tuesday, November 25, just after 1:30 p.m.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) detectives with the Violent Crimes Unit (VCU), members of the IMPD Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, and an officer with the Franklin Police Department, were attempting to locate a wanted suspect in the 1200 block of Mitsubishi Pkwy., in Franklin.
IMPD SWAT officers surrounded a semi-truck where the suspect was believed to be located. He was wanted on several felony charges including criminal confinement resulting in bodily injury, intimidation with a deadly weapon, strangulation, domestic battery in the presence of a child, and pointing a firearm.
After officers surrounded the semi-truck, they reportedly gave repeated verbal command to surrenders, but the suspect did not comply and refused to exit the semi-truck. Several tactical resources were utilized in an effort to de-escalate the situation, however the situation led to officers discharging their firearms, striking the suspect.
Officers provided immediate medical aid to the suspect, who was subsequently transported to an area hospital in critical condition. The man was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
The suspect was identified as 37 year old Robert Bido of Indianapolis.
No officers or uninvolved community members were injured during this incident. A shotgun was located near the suspect.
The involved officers involved were equipped with body-worn cameras, which were activated during the incident.
