COLUMBUS, Ind. – UPDATE: The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Flood Watch for south-central Indiana beginning Thursday night and continuing through Saturday morning. A Flood Watch is issued when conditions are favorable for flooding. It does not mean flooding will occur, but it is possible.
ORIGINAL: Bartholomew County Emergency Management (BCEM) has given an update on rainfall totals and the chance for flooding later this week into the weekend.
Heavy rain and thunderstorms are possible Thursday through Saturday and will come in two rounds: the first of which is expected Thursday night, with the second coming Friday night into Saturday.
Bartholomew County is expected to receive rain in the 3-to-4-inch range as of Wednesday morning.
Flooding concerns increase late week into the weekend, with creek and river flooding possible starting Friday, although the stream gauges are not showing any predictions for levels or crests, according to BCEM.
NWS predictions currently show two rivers (Flatrock, East Fork White) reaching Minor flooding levels and one river (Driftwood) reaching Moderate flooding levels.
