VERNON, Ind. – In memory of its founder Dan Shade, the Friends of the Muscatatuck River Society is sponsoring the 20th Annual Fall River “Shady Sweep” on Saturday, October 7, beginning at 8 a.m.
Volunteers can walk along its bank while collecting trash, or they can canoe sections of the Muscatatuck River (must provide your own watercraft) while contributing positively to the environment and community.
All are welcome and encouraged to dress in clothing appropriate for outdoor work and relative to the weather conditions that morning. A brief safety instruction, equipment distribution, and group location assignments will be held before going to the river sweep locations.
The event concludes at noon at the County Highway Garage, on State Road 3 North, near the Jennings County Fairgrounds to dispose of trash.
A free lunch will be provided from food donated by local businesses at the New Bethel Methodist food stand in the Jennings County Fairgrounds.
Questions regarding the cleanup or sponsorship may be directed to Troy Jackson at 812-592-0481 or you can visit the Friends of the Muscatatuck River Society on Facebook for more information.
