GREENSBURG, Ind. – The City of Greensburg has announced road closures and traffic pattern changes for the 2024 total solar eclipse next month.
East Central Avenue from Big Blue Avenue to NE 80 will be closed to traffic from midnight on Sunday, April 7, to Tuesday, April 9, at midnight, or until the gridlock clears.
East Montgomery Road will become one-way traffic from Davidson Street to Lincoln Street from Monday, April 8 at 6 a.m. to Tuesday, April 9 at noon. Public safety estimates that it may take until midnight on Tuesday, April 9, to get all visitors out of Greensburg.
As a reminder, residents will receive a flyer in their utility bill in the next few weeks with the following public safety information:
- Greensburg Community and Decatur County Schools will have an e-Learning Day on April 8.
- Greensburg trash service/Rumpke recycling service will be suspended on Monday, April 8, and will be picked up on Tuesday, April 9.
- City offices and buildings will be closed on Monday, April 8.
- Residents who attend eclipse events are encouraged to use alternate modes of transportation (walk, bike, golf carts) due to increased traffic.
- To prevent visitors from camping/parking on your property, owners have the right to block access to their front/backyards, and driveways).
- Residents should run errands, fuel vehicles, and do their banking before Sunday, April 7.
- Do not call 911 unless it is a true emergency.
