JACKSON COUNTY, Ind. – Indiana State Police (ISP) concluded a vehicle pursuit in southern Indiana with the use of a PIT (Precision Immobilization Technique) maneuver on I-65 on Wednesday. An Illinois man was arrested on reckless driving and drug possession charges.
Indiana State Police (ISP) troopers attempted to stop an SUV for following too closely on I-65 near Seymour at the 51-mile marker. The driver, Kyle Edward Jurkovic, 34, of Joliet, Illinois, refused to stop and accelerated away from the trooper. Jurkovic fled south on I-65, sometimes exceeding 100 mph.
Multiple units from ISP and local law enforcement agencies responded to assist, but Jurkovic continued southbound, weaving through traffic. The pursuit continued into Scott County, where a deputy successfully deployed Stop Stick tire deflation devices, which Jurkovic struck with at least one tire. After continuing south, he exited onto State Road 56 at the Scottsburg exit and attempted to re-enter I-65 via the northbound on-ramp.
As Jurkovic accelerated northbound on the ramp, the PIT maneuver was executed, bringing the chase to a stop as the vehicle spun off the on-ramp and overturned onto the emergency lane of northbound I-65. The suspect was taken into custody. Medical personnel assessed him before officers transported him to the Jackson County Jail.
Jurkovic has been charged with:
- Resisting Law Enforcement with a Vehicle (Level 6 Felony)
- Reckless Driving (A Misdemeanor),
- Possession of Marijuana (B Misdemeanor),
- Possession of Paraphernalia (A Misdemeanor),
