GREENWOOD, Ind. – The Greenwood Fire Department (GFD) does more than fight fires.
Just after 10 p.m. on Friday, Engine 93 and Squad 93 were dispatched to a report of a dog in a body of water. When they arrived, crews located the dog.
It became obvious that the animal could not swim to shore on its own, so firefighters went into the water and safely rescued the dog.
GFD reminds citizens not to enter the water in an attempt to rescue a person or animal. Doing so can put you and/or others at serious risk. Instead, call 911 and let trained professionals respond.
