COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Friends of Columbus Animal Care services have canceled the Midnight Loop evening bike ride that was scheduled for Saturday night, July 12, due to the possibility of severe weather. Weather forecasts from several sources indicated a risk of strong storms moving through the area late this afternoon/evening.
According to the organizers, “although things look like they may clear up around 9 p.m., if it does storm earlier in the evening, there would not be adequate time to tour the course and clear it of debris.” Riding at night on slick roads with low visibility could result in potential danger.
Director of Columbus Animal Care Services Nicohl Birdwell-Goodin added, “You can’t fight Mother Nature. The safety of riders and volunteers is our main concern. The committee will try to find another date to ride yet this year, and if we find one that works with the City of Columbus, we will announce it.”
It was the second time this year’s Moonlight Loop had to be postponed. The bike ride was originally scheduled for June 7 but was canceled that night because of the weather and rescheduled for July 12.
Riders who wish to pick up their t-shirts may do so at Animal Care Services starting Monday, July 14, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
