COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Police Department (CPD) SWAT team was called to assist in the service of a high-risk arrest warrant/search warrant related to a violent felon on October 17.
The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) initiated an investigation into Chad Houchins, who was wanted on a felony warrant that stemmed from a petition to revoke pretrial release on multiple charges, including: Dealing in Methamphetamine, Possession of Meth, Unlawful possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon, and Unlawful Possession of a Syringe.
During the investigation, deputies determined Houchins had tampered with his electronic monitoring device by removing his house arrest bracelet, resulting in an additional warrant for Escape. As a result of the information gathered, a search warrant was granted for a residence in the 500 block of South Street in Hope.
The Columbus Police Department SWAT team (officers from CPD and BCSO) was called to the scene to assist with serving the arrest warrant/search warrant. Houchins was located after concealing himself inside a vehicle on the property.
Houchins was arrested on the outstanding warrants and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail. He remains in custody at the Bartholomew County Jail with no bond.
All persons are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
