COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Common Council of the City of Columbus (“City Council”) appointed new volunteer Human Rights Commissioners at the Tuesday, October 21, City Council meeting. These appointments are effective as of October 21.
The appointments include:
- Dr. Amy Hale – term of two (2) years expiring on March 31, 2027
- Mr. Timmothy Green – term of three (3) years expiring on March 31, 2028
- Mr. Clarence Simms – term of three (3) years expiring on March 31, 2028
Dr. Hale is a Columbus native and currently serves as the Medical Director of VIMCare Clinic. Before medical school, she served two (2) years in the Peace Corps as a volunteer in Southern Africa, where she focused on HIV/AIDS education and community health initiatives.
Green is the Columbus Center Supervisor for Indiana Youth Group (IYG), Columbus. His personal and professional journey has led him to focus on youth-centered work, creating safe and welcoming spaces for young people to feel seen, supported, empowered, and valued.
Simms is the Senior IT Director at Cummins Inc., where he leads global digital transformation initiatives within HR Technology. He has over thirty years of international leadership experience in technology, operations, and community advocacy.
It is the policy of the City of Columbus to ensure the equal opportunity of all residents in areas that most impact the quality of life. The main role of the Human Rights Commission is to enforce the City’s long-established anti-discrimination ordinance, first enacted in 1969, which prohibits discrimination in housing, employment, public accommodation, credit, and education based on race, religion, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, disability, veteran status, and familial status (in housing only).
