GREENWOOD, Ind.—A former strip mall in Greenwood is being eyed for redevelopment. The Greenwood Redevelopment Commission has decided to turn a strip mall adjacent to Greenwood Park Mall into park space to improve the overall appearance of an area hit hard by flooding in 2008. Businesses have struggled in the space ever since, leading FEMA to reclassify a majority of the property part of a flood plain. Commission President Brent Tilson says that the city purchasing and redeveloping a property that is no longer commercially viable benefits both Greenwood and the surrounding area.
