VERSAILLES, Ind.–The Versailles District of Indiana State Troopers, which covers Bartholomew, Decatur, Jackson, and Jennings Counties, has something of a folk hero on its hands. On Saturday, public information officer Sgt. Stephen Wheeles tweeted that he had pulled over a car for driving slowly in the left lane of Interstate 65, causing a backup of roughly 20 vehicles. It is Indiana law to move to the right lane in order to allow other vehicles to pass, even if they are traveling above posted speed limits.
The story has now made national news, attracting a response from, among others, former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman and race car driver Graham Rahal. The tweet by Wheeles has been published on the websites for the New York Post, The Miami Herald, The Palm Beach Post, Washington Times, and even British tabloid The Daily Mail.
