COLUMBUS, Ind. – Columbus Police Department (CPD) public relations officer Lt. Matt Harris says a local man was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated after he reportedly drove his vehicle into a pond on Thursday evening. Patrolmen responded to the area of the accident on Taylor Road, north of 31st Street, at around 8:45 p.m.
CPD noted that a truck had crashed through a fence and was partially in the water. Officers allege that the driver of the truck, Troy Fear, 48, of Columbus, had difficulty maintaining his balance and noticed his speech was slurred.
The driver was uninjured but was transported to Columbus Regional Health, where law enforcement later applied for a search warrant for a blood draw when the suspect supposedly became uncooperative.
After obtaining the blood draw, Fear was placed under arrest and taken to the Bartholomew County Jail on a preliminary charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
