PLAINFIELD, Ind. – Duke Energy is warning its Indiana customers to be on guard against phone calls from scammers who are demanding customers pay their electric bill immediately or risk having their electric service disconnected.
Local law enforcement officials say that the number of fraudulent calls reported by citizens has increased recently.
Customers can best defend themselves against scammers by understanding that Duke Energy would never ask you to send prepaid debit or credit cards or request the prepaid card’s receipt number and PIN, which grants instant access to the card’s funds.
