COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Parks and Recreation Board met Wednesday afternoon and okayed the purchase of the former site of Machinery Moving, at 1360 Jackson St., in the amount of $205,000.
The building that had housed that business will remain and serve as a storage facility. The property is adjacent to land the department already owns, giving it a contiguous set of properties from Noblitt Park to Mill Race Park.
Columbus Parks and Recreation is pursuing a grant from Indiana Brownfields, a program of the Indiana Finance Authority. An issue was discovered during the second phase of an environmental study, but parks department director Mark Jones feels confident that the grant will come through.
The next step is for the Board of Works to vote on the property transfer. If that is approved, the process moves to closing.
