COLUMBUS, Ind. – Authorities at the Columbus Fire Department say that firefighters responded to a fire alarm call at Columbus North High School, 1400 25th Street, at approximately 11:24 a.m., on Wednesday.
When emergency crews entered the school, they learned that the alarm was caused by the sprinkler system activation in a second-floor chemistry classroom. No fire was present.
Firefighters were able to stop the sprinklers shortly after their arrival, however, a significant amount of water had been released before the flow was stopped. The water accumulation flooded the chemistry classroom, the hallway, and the classroom directly below on the first floor.
No damage estimates were provided by firefighters at the scene. Students remained outside the building for approximately 60 minutes before classes resumed.
