JACKSON COUNTY, Ind. – Tax filing season may still be a few months away, but the Jackson County United Way (JCUW) is recruiting now for new volunteers to be Free Income Tax Assistance (FITA) preparers. JCUW has a bold goal to serve 500 taxpayers this season in order to assist the growing number of people using the service.
The public is invited to learn more about how they can become an IRS certified FITA preparer. Volunteers help prepare and file basic tax forms for eligible individuals and families. No previous accounting or tax experience is needed, and flexible training options are offered.
FITA is a free, tax preparation program for individuals or families who generally make $56,000 or less.
