NEW ALBANY, Ind. – A Marion County man, DeJuan Andre Worthen, 30, was sentenced Tuesday to 30 years in prison for his role in the murder and robbery of a gun store owner near North Vernon.
In September 2014, along with Darryl Worthen and Darion Harris, he traveled from Indianapolis to North Vernon to check out the Muscatatuck Outdoors Gun Shop’s inventory. They drove back to Indianapolis and made plans to rob the owner, Scott Maxie.
The next day they returned and confronted Maxie. During the robbery, Darryl Worthen shot and killed the owner. The criminals stole 45 firearms, sold many of them, and kept several others.
“Senseless violence is something no family should have to face,” said Acting U.S. Attorney John E. Childress. “This sentence sends a clear message that gun violence will not be tolerated in Indiana.”
DeJuan Worthen’s co-defendants, Darryl Worthen, 32, of Indianapolis, was sentenced to 60 years imprisonment in 2015, while Darion Harris, 28, of Indianapolis, was sentenced to 30 years in 2019.
