COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Fire Department (CFD) announced the hiring of Austin Miller as the newest member of the department. He was welcomed and recited the oath of firefighter presented by Columbus Mayor Jim Lienhoop at Tuesday morning’s Board of Public Works and Safety Meeting held at City Hall.
Miller, 22, of Indianapolis, graduated from Franklin Central High School in 2017 and from Ivy Tech Community College with a degree in Fire Science in 2020.
The new firefighter is a state-certified Basic Emergency Medical Technician and has completed Firefighter I&II certifications. He previously worked at Seals Ambulance and the Bargersville Fire Department.
Columbus Fire Chief Andy Lay said Miller will immediately begin a CFD orientation and training program and upon completion, he will be given a station to report to and shift assignment.
